Continuing Education

Ms. Rachel Savageau – Oversees the continuing education department.  This includes: creating a calendar of continuing education classes; seeking out and verify credentials for continuing education instructors; registering continuing education students; marketing continuing education classes; and maintaining continuing education approvals with New York State and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

Lines of communication are as follows.

  • Executive Officers on continuing education policies and procedures and payments to continuing education instructors.
  • Registrar regarding reports and data.
  • Office Manager regarding scheduling of classes.
  • Marketing and Media Specialist to inform marketing campaigns.

Course Description:

This course is open to anyone with a basic understanding of the 12 meridians and their locations.   Students will learn the deeper aspects of the Fire element including assessment using Color, Sound, Odor, and Emotion,  the psychological and psycho-spiritual symptoms of Elemental imbalance, the location and the use of the Five Element Fire points as well as advanced shiatsu techniques. Students will need to bring two flat sheets and a pillow and wear loose comfortable clothing.

Learning Outcomes/Objectives:

-Students will locate the Five Element Points on the Heart, Small Intestine, Pericardium and Triple Heater meridians.

-Students will observe and perform advanced Shiatsu techniques for the Fire Elements.

-Students will practice observing Color, Sound, Odor and Emotion assessment techniques with their classmates.

-Students will demonstrate a broader understanding of the Fire element from a Classical Five Element perspective.

-Students will perform assessment treatment of the four Fire organs/officials in the Hara.

-Students will recognize and identify the psychological manifestations of the Fire Element.

-Students will develop a treatment plan to address imbalance in the Fire element.

 

 

 Instructor Bios:

Dagney Alexander THUMB - 2015-08-27 12:14:43

Dagny Alexander, BA, LMT, CYT, has been practicing and teaching Shiatsu since 1997.  She graduated from The Desert Institute for Healing Arts in Tucson, Arizona.  Her original certification was in Zen Shiatsu.  Dagny continued her studies in New York with Master Ohashi at the Ohashi Institute.  Dagny’s work is deeply influenced by her studies of Classical Five Element Theory with Lonny Jarrett.  She completed his 200 hour Clinical Integration course in 2007. Her work is also influenced by Master Mantak Chia’s work in Chi Nei Tsang.  She practices Classical Five Element shiatsu in Albany, New York and has been Co-teaching the Shiatsu class at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage in Albany with Mary Crinnin since 2001.  Dagny also has her 500 hour yoga teacher certification and teaches yoga classes in the area.

Mary Crinnin THUMB - 2015-08-27 12:17:34Mary Crinnin, BA, LMT has been an instructor at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage in Albany since its inception in 1999, and has been practicing and teaching Shiatsu since 1997.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wells College, and is a graduate of the Finger Lakes School of Massage Therapy.  Mary’s work is influenced by her studies with various teachers in Thailand,  Master Mantak Chia’s work in Chi Nei Tsang, Watsu therapy and yoga.  Mary has a Shiatsu and Thai massage practice in Albany and has been Co-teaching the Shiatsu course, and Continuing Education classes with Dagny Alexander at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage since 2001.
