Shiatsu Elemental Intensive: Wood

Course Description:

This course is open to anyone with a basic understanding of the 12 meridians and their locations.  Students will learn the deeper aspects of the Wood Element including classical assessment using CSOE, color, sound, odor, and emotion.  They will explore their psychological and psycho-spiritual symptoms of Wood Elemental imbalance.  They will learn the location and treatment protocol of the Five Element points along the Liver and Gallbladder channels.  We will work these channels in supine, prone and side-lying,, practicing advanced shiatsu technique as well as working with the mu points, shu points, and  hara for both assessing and treating the Wood within us.  Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring two flat sheets and two pillows.

 Learning Outcomes and Objectives

-Students will locate and treat the Five Element points on the Liver and Gallbladder channels.

-Students will observe and perform advanced shiatsu techniques related specifically to treating the Liver and Gallbladder channels, including hara work, meridian stretches, and use of mu and shu.

-Students will practice recognizing Color, Sound, Odor, and Emotion assessment techniques with their classmates, as well as identifying the CSOE related specifically to Wood.

-Students will demonstrate a broader understanding of the Wood element from a Classical Five Element Perspective, and gain the tools to apply this understanding in their massage practice and daily life. This will be gained through a meditation followed by a comprehensive discussion on the Wood Element.

-Students will perform assessment of the Wood within through assessing Liver and Gallbladder in hara, and mu and shu points through physical practice using the guidelines of kyo and jitsu.

-Students will recognize and identify the psychological manifestations of the Wood Element and will practice using the language and metaphor related to the Wood Element.

-Students will develop a treatment plan to address psycho-spiritual and physical imbalance in the Wood Element to utilize in their massage practice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Instructor Bios:

Dagney Alexander THUMB - 2015-08-27 12:14:43

Dagny Alexander, BA, LMT, CYT, has been practicing and teaching Shiatsu since 1997.  She graduated from The Desert Institute for Healing Arts in Tucson, Arizona.  Her original certification was in Zen Shiatsu.  Dagny continued her studies in New York with Master Ohashi at the Ohashi Institute.  Dagny’s work is deeply influenced by her studies of Classical Five Element Theory with Lonny Jarrett.  She completed his 200 hour Clinical Integration course in 2007. Her work is also influenced by Master Mantak Chia’s work in Chi Nei Tsang.  She practices Classical Five Element shiatsu in Albany, New York and has been Co-teaching the Shiatsu class at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage in Albany with Mary Crinnin since 2001.  Dagny also has her 500 hour yoga teacher certification and teaches yoga classes in the area.

 

Mary Crinnin THUMB - 2015-08-27 12:17:34Mary Crinnin, BA, LMT has been an instructor at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage in Albany since its inception in 1999, and has been practicing and teaching Shiatsu since 1997.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wells College, and is a graduate of the Finger Lakes School of Massage Therapy.  Mary’s work is influenced by her studies with various teachers in Thailand,  Master Mantak Chia’s work in Chi Nei Tsang, Watsu therapy and yoga.  Mary has a Shiatsu and Thai massage practice in Albany and has been Co-teaching the Shiatsu course, and Continuing Education classes with Dagny Alexander at The Center For Natural Wellness school of Massage since 2001.
