Course Description
Whiplash is a common injury that affects a person physically, mentally, and emotionally. In this course, we will explore how LMTs can apply special techniques and use variants of traditional massage to help clients move through this unique injury and its aftermath. We will also be sure to discuss how the intake and SOAP notes may differ from other clients and what marketing strategies you can use to bring in this specific clientele. By the end of this class, you will feel ready to confidently work on clients who have experienced whiplash.
Learning Objectives
1. Students will discuss the potential causes of whiplash as well as the mechanism of whiplash (cervical strain/sprain) in order to comprehend the full spectrum of possible whiplash injuries they may encounter.
2. Students will list, identify and palpate the muscles most often involved in whiplash.
3. Students will perform mock interviews of the specific health intake process involved when working with whiplash patients and develop possible treatment strategies.
4. Students will perform whiplash-specific techniques, including swedish massage, muscle energy techniques, and other forms of massage and hands-on energy work, on each other.
5. Students will document SOAP notes and design a personal record keeping procedure for working with whiplash patients.
6. Students will demonstrate how to communicate with other practitioners regarding their treatment plans for whiplash.
Learning Outcomes
1. Students will demonstrate proficiency in massage treatments for whiplash.
