How to Find a Massage Therapy School You’ll Love

By: Lisa Saccoia, BS, LMT

Massage Therapy is an attractive career if you’re passionate about natural wellness. It offers autonomy and a relaxing atmosphere – plus job growth is on the rise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Massage Therapy jobs will increase 22% this decade. All this and yummy lotions? Where do I sign up?

It’s important to do your research. Take time to find the perfect program for you.  Ask the right questions when the Admissions team is wooing you and you’ll be glad you did.

Below is a list of 5 must-haves and questions to help you find a Massage Therapy school you’ll love.

Massage therapy school, find a massage school, find the best massage school

1.) Visit.

A great way to investigate the vibe is by visiting. Attend an Open House or schedule a tour. It’s amazing the insight you’ll get just by observing. Look around: Are the facilities clean and updated? Are the people friendly and helpful? Is it a convenient location?

2.) Hands-On Experience.

Ever meet a massage therapist who got their license online? Trick question. The more hands-on experience you get, the better.  Our school provides hands-on time via our in-house Massage Clinic. Community event massage also offers additional networking opportunities you wouldn’t otherwise get.

3.) Accreditation.

Accreditation helps private career schools (and colleges) become better institutions. By setting standards, an accreditation body holds a school accountable. In turn, you get a higher quality education. Make sure your choice school is accredited.

4.) Massage Therapy Jobs.

Does the school provide job placement services? Help with resume writing? At CNW: School of Massage, we offer a yearly job fair and provide job placement for life. Ask if the school offers help finding employment upon licensure.

5.) Massage Therapy School Continuing Education.

Love it or hate it, continuing education is becoming a requirement for this profession. Here are some questions to ponder about Massage Therapy Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

  • Is the school an accredited Continuing Education provider?
  • Will these skills be valuable to an employer?
  • Is there a variety of classes that you’ll enjoy? Check out this Modality List from The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

The National Holistic Institute (NHI) has some advice on this topic, too. In his article The Importance of Continuing Ed for Massage Therapists, Dr. Jeff Rockwell puts it simply: “learning prevents you from getting bored.” Many massage therapists specialize in a modality they’re passionate about. Find something you love and dive in!

BONUS TIP: Massage Therapy School Tuition.

When you meet with the school Financial Advisor, ask about tuition options, payment plans, and scholarships. Some schools may even offer discounts on: massage, natural wellness books, supplies, counseling services, and tutorials.

Don’t be afraid to ask about these topics when a massage school is pursuing you. Massage School is an investment and a journey of personal and professional growth. Do your homework and you could have the best educational experience of your life.
